Things on a Friday!

I'm going to interrupt my usual Friday Funnies post (next week's will be even funnier I promise) to bring a few things to your attention on this overcast and dreary Friday, well here in Johannesburg anyway.

First things first, it's National Milk Tart day  and thanks to all the delicious recipes and awesome photos being posted on social media, I am now craving Milk Tart! And because it's never nice to be craving such sweet things alone, I'll going to tempt you with these delicious recipes.

Secondly there is of course, the Dress that broke the internet. What stared with a women posting a photo of a dress on her Tumblr account has now taken over the internet and is trending on Twitter. People are split as to whether the dress is black and blue or gold and white. Which colours do you see?

Oh and finally, a dear and lovely fellow blogger and friend of mine has taking the plunge and stated her own business. Johlet is now offering Pilates classes in the comfort and privacy of your own home. Take a look at her website for more details.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Crustless quiche

A little while ago my sister and I hosted a joint dinner party for some of our friends. One of the things we wanted to try and make for this dinner party was a crustless quiche. Now I have to admit when I first started looking up recipes for crustless quiche I became a bit despondent, because they all seem like such hard work. We therefore ended up adapting our own little recipe and I do have to say, it's so simple and quick to make. Hardly any fuss...lol.

Base and basic filling ingredients:

Method:
1. Boil potatoes and when soft, mash together with the butter/marg and salt.
2. Spray a baking dish with a non-stick spray & press the mashed potatoes into your baking dish to make an even crust.
3. Bake the crust in the oven for 10-20 min (I had my oven at 180 degrees), till it is starting to go a golden brown.
4. Whisk basic filling ingredients together.

We made two types of quiches.

Mushroom, onion and thyme:
250g sliced button mushrooms
1 finely chopped brown onion
1 Tbs butter/margarine
1 tsp garlic and herb seasoning
1 tsp dried thyme

Method:
1. Gently melt the butter in a pan and then add the mushrooms, onion, garlic and herb seasoning. Fry for 5 minutes.
2. Mix the thyme into the basic quiche filling.
3. Add the mushroom & onion mixture to the basic quiche filling.
4. Pour the mixture into the baked base & bake at 180 degrees for 40 - 45 mins.

Spinach and feta:

150g baby spinach
¼ cup feta (cubed)

Method:
1. Roughly chop the baby spinach leaves.
2. Wilt by pouring boiling water over them & draining.
3. Mix spinach with feta & mix into basic mix.

Date night

It's the month of love and just because Valentines day has come and gone doesn't mean the romance has to as well. But going on dates and spoiling your loved one can also be a bit pricey. So I've found the best at home date night ideas (I know we'll be trying a few of these ourselves)  Not only are these so much more romantic and private (because it's in the comfort of your own home) but they're a lot easier on your bank balance as well.

Have chocolate tasting night.
Watch a sports game together and make bets on who will win.
Give each other massages.
Cook together.
Have a picnic on the TV room floor.
Have a karaoke night.
Make it a theme night.
Have a romantic candle light dinner.
Fondue night.
Breakfast in bed.
Watch your favourite movies together.
Play Twister.
Bubble bath for two.

Play some board games.

DIY Valentines

Usually I don't celebrate Valentines Day, whether I'm in a relationship or not! But the other day while scrolling through my Pinterest feed I came across a few really cute DIY Valentines ideas and I thought I just had to share them. For those who do celebrate Valentines.

Flexible February

Well I'm at it again, I've joined yet another yoga challenge this month (#LetsGETFlexyIn2015). You'll remember last year I joined the #independencearmy challenge and I loved ever minute of it. This time around the challenge is all about improving your flexibility.

Does it look like something you'd want to try, well there is still time to join. All you have to do is tag @beachyogagirl@kinoyoga @aloyoga along with the hashtag #independencearmy when you post your photo each day. It’s as easy as that.

You can also follow my progress by taking a look at my Instagram account

Just a hop across the pond

If you're wondering why I was so quiet on the blog last week, it's because I was practically on the other side of the world having the time of my life. Now you're probably wondering where I was? Well to fill you in I was in Portland, Oregon visiting Nike Headquarters and getting to see what they have planned for 2015. Now I can't tell you exactly what that is, until Nike themselves have released the information but I can give you a short overview of what my trip was like.

After a 16 hour flight the only thing I wanted was coffee.

Our hotel, The Nines.

Walking around the streets of Portland.

My beautiful room.

Starting the morning with coffee and cheese.

Walking around Nike campus.

A quick warm up before running
through the streets of Portland.

How we celebrated finishing the run.

The next day we did speed test training
on the track at Nike campus.

Finally seeing some snow, even if it was from the plane.

How you entertain yourself on a six hour layover.

Overall it was the trip of a lifetime and I would do it all again, even if it included the 62 hours (in total) of travelling.
