Friday Funnies

It's my favourite day of the week...Friday! What's also lovely about Friday is my Friday Funnies series. Now when I started this series I didn't think it would get such a great reaction, but week after week you all keep coming back for more laughs. For that I just want to say thank you. So before I get all soppy on you let's get down to business, the business of laughter that is.

Another week's round up of what's been making me happy. It's been a week filled with the simple yet most beautiful things, because isn't that after all what makes a person the happiest.

When a hairstyle I tried actually works out.

Waking up to raindrops on my plants.

Having a jacuzzi party with friends, and look at that view.

Finally getting a chance to put my feet up and relax.

Pizza and quiz night with friends.

When my dad is visiting from overseas for a night or two.

Having coffee in bed.

Friday Funnies

It's time for a laugh! Why, because it's the weekend baby! Hope you all have a fantastic weekend. Now sit back, relax and have a laugh.

This week's round up of what's been making me happy....

A girl never gets tired of flowers.

All decorated and ready to celebrate love.

High tea in the afternoon.

Impromptu pool party.

Freshly manicured nails.

Having my favourite meal.

A quick lunch hour outing.

Just smile

Just the other day I was paging through a magazine when I came across a very heartfelt article all about an organisation that provides cleft lip and palate repair in developing countries. This organisation as many of you may know is Operation Smile.

Now I’ve heard about (and seen what this operation does) before but it was only through reading this article and what they had done for these particular children that I felt more inspired. I was so inspired by this organisation and all that they do, that I decided to do a little research of my own. For instance did you know?

  • Operation Smile has partnerships with the following countries: Australia, Bolivia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gaza Strip, Honduras, India, Jordan, Kenya, Laos, Mexico, Morocco, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Russia, South Africa, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Venezuela and Vietnam.
  • Each time they undertake a project they send along a site coordinator, plastic surgeon, anesthesiologist, a pediatrician, intensive care physician, a nurse, pre- and post-op nurses, child development specialist, speech pathologist, dentists and orthodontist.
  • Operation Smile is has quite the line up of celebrity ambassadors as well. Some of the names you might recognize are: Bill and Guliana Rancic, Zachary Levi, Jay Manuel, Carmit Bachar, David Pomeranz, Maggie Rizer, Roselyn Sanchez, Roma Downey and Eric Winter.
  • Operation Smile has many corporate sponsors but the one that popped out the most for me was CampusBookRentals. CampusBookRentals is an online store through which college students can rent textbooks for the duration of their studies instead of having to buy them. Wow how I wish I was aware of this when I was still studying, it would have saved me a bundle of money. Oh and the best part, with each textbook rented CampusBookRentals donates a portion of the proceeds to Operation Smile. Completing your studies and donating to a charitable organisation at the same time, now that’s right up my alley.

You know I could go on and on about all the good this organisation does, but the proof is in the pudding. So why not head on over the OperationSmile website and have a look for yourself. And while you’re at it have a look how you can personally help this amazing organisation and put a smile (quite literally) on someone’s face.

It's all a jumble of words

The last couple of days (more like weeks) I've had so many songs stuck in my head. And well sometimes it just ends up being the biggest jumble of words running around in this brain of mine. So I thought it would be funny if I write down some of these lyrics and see how many of you can guess which songs I've been singing?

Now spread towards the shore
I jumped so high I touched the clouds
Maybe I'm not listening
Maybe I need to see the daylight
Even when I lose I'm winning
We got the keys to open paradise, yeah, paradise
There's a wild, wild whisper
Got to let it ride
But the airways are clean and there's nobody singing to me now
In fact that's where music comes from
For a smile they can share the night
Lights will guide you home
In time I found myself in happiness with you
Say something funny, say something sweet
When I see you my knees go weak
Get swept up and carried through
Til all my sleeves are stained red
Now my feet won't touch the ground
But honestly I just need to be a little crazy
When she was just a girl

Little minds

I've spoken about my job before and how much I really really love it (no I'm not making it up) but what I haven't mentioned before is that one of the perks of my job is that it's a family run business. So the environment is a lot more friendly and caring than that of a big corporation. Now I'm not here to tell you about the inner workings of the company I work for, what I'm actually here for is to tell you about a few childhood memories of mine.

These particular memories were jogged the other day when my boss's two year old daughter come to the office (she visits quite often and each time she manages to amuse us all over again). She was bouncing around the office being her usual adorable self when next second she starts talking about Tinker Bell and how she is going to find her in the trees outside (because apparently she lives in the gardens surrounding the building). This got me thinking to some of the cute and silly yet adorable (or so my parents told me) things I used to get up to when I was a child.

  • I would make my parents write love notes to me (even though I couldn't read).
  • I would play golf in the garden with my dad's putter.
  • Every tree (no matter how big or small) turned into a tree house.
  • I tried to act (and dress) like every Disney princess I had ever seen. Yes, these was a Jasmine midriff era there somewhere...lol.
  • I tried, very unsuccessfully to dress the dogs up in my doll's clothing.
  • I would always ask to have a sip of my dad's beer even though I didn't (and still don't) like the taste.
  • I would line up all my teddy bears and Barbies from smallest to biggest (think that's where my mild OCD started) and then pretend they were at a ceremony of some kind.
  • Every Sunday lunch my dad would pour my sister and I each a liqueur glass of wine and I really thought they were wine glasses for children.
  • Once when my parents were out to dinner my sister and I built a fort on their bed. We used a whole lot of rope, blankets and cushions.

Oh to be a child again without a care in the world and having your biggest problem be with which toys you were going to play with that day.

Friday Funnies

The weekend is here! We're currently on deadline at work and it's been a bit crazy so this is one weekend I am very thankful for. It's going to be a another awesome weekend spent with the friends...love it! So let's kick it off on a good note, with another round of Friday funnies.

100happydays update four

Yes, I'm still going strong with the #100happydays challenge. It's become like second nature now to snap a happy moment or thing each day. What's amazing is the amount of people who have joined the challenge, who knew something so simple could become something so big. I love looking at other people's photos and seeing what was their happy moment of the day. So let's have a look at my happy for the last week.

Everyone loves a week day spoil

Curry, wine and friends. What else does a girl need?

Going into town to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Adding another orchid to my collection.

Even though it's overcast Joburg sunsets are still beautiful.

Having a midweek girls night. I got a bit creative with this shot..lol.

Going to see Rocky Horror, it was amazing!

Chinese New Year

This past Saturday to headed out to Johannesburg's very first China town to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Now I have to admit, going there I had no idea what was coming or what to expect and then the whole evening's festivities just blew me away. The food, the people, the activities taking place, the fireworks...it was all so amazing!
