Friday Funnies

It's a very wet and chilly Friday here in Johannesburg! I woke up at about 12am to the sound of pouring rain, the best way to be woken up. The sad part is that I knew I would have to get up in a few hours to go to work. Now don't get me wrong, I love my job but no one wants to leave the comfort and cosiness of their bed when it's raining. The highlight though is that it's at least Friday and it's set out to be another brilliant weekend. So while I get all excited for all that I have planned and lined up for the weekend, I invite you to sit back relax and have a laugh.

Doing something I love, baking.

So what's been making you happy for the last week?

DIY pearls and chains

This past weekend I felt like making some more jewellery. I did however do things a little differently this time, because instead of making yet another bracelet I made a necklace instead. This one like all the jewellery I've been making lately is quick and easy, and won't even take you half an hour.

What you'll need:
Hook clasp

Tie a length of thread onto one link from the chain and string the beads onto the thread.
The amount of beads used and the length of the thread is completely up to you.

Once you're done it should look something like this.

Tie the other end of the thread onto another link from the chain.

Now attach the chain onto both ends of the beads, using the secured links.
You can use either a chain or ribbon for this section of the necklace.

And there you have it.
A completed bead and chain/ribbon necklace, that didn't even take you that long to make.

Friday Funnies

It's that time again folks. Time for the weekend to being (well after work that is) and to start it off on a good note I have yet another round of funny photos for you to have a good giggle at. This week's funnies are brought to you by 9GAG, one of my favourite websites. So sit back, relax, have a laugh and let the good times begin.

Have a great weekend everyone.

DIY: Sugar hearts

So as we all know, Valentines Day is just around the corner. Now I've never celebrated Valentines day but when I came across this cute sugar cube idea, I just had to give it a try. And who knows maybe someone who does celebrate Valentines day will think it's a cute idea for their loved one.

What you'll need:
Heart shape mold
A spoon
Gel food colouring

Add 1/2 cup of sugar, 3/4 tsp of water, and a bit of food colouring until it forms a paste.

Pack the sugar into the heart molds. Make sure to level the sugar so the hearts are flat. Now let it sit in the molds for about an hour.

Once your sugar hearts have been in the mold for about an hour, turn them over onto parchment paper. Let the sugar hearts sit untouched for a few more hours, giving them time to harden.

There you have it heart shaped sugar cubes.

Friday Funnies

TGIF! This week has been manic busy, both socially and work wise. Not that the weekend is showing any chances of slowing down either, but then again I kinda prefer it that way. Now with the start of the weekend comes my usual Friday Funnies and boy some of these are really hilarious. So sit back, relax and have a good laugh.

100happydays update one

As you may recall I recently signed up for the 100happydays challenge. At first I thought it would be tricky to find one thing each day that makes me happy, but so far it's actually been a lot of fun and really easy. I found that once I started focusing on the simple everyday joys of life I had a greater appreciation for just about everything. That and I have come to realise just how much joy and laughter I experience in just one day. Below is my first week's round of 100happydays photos.

Back yard wine sessions

Driving on the highway at night

The green trees and grass in my neighbourhood

Bargain shopping

Surprise flowers

Finally doing something crafty

Love is in the air

Pink drinks

DIY leather bracelets

This past weekend I did a bit of DIY. I can't describe how good it felt to finally make something after such a long break. Oh and what did I make? Well a bracelet of course. I've decided that in 2014 I will wear more bracelets, mainly because I have so many of them and they never see the light of day. The bracelets I made this weekend are so easy to make. All three of these didn't even take me an hour. Now who doesn't love a quick and easy do-it-yourself bracelet?

What you'll need:
Leather string
Different colour threads
Hook clasps

Start plaiting two strands of the leather string with one strand of the coloured thread.

When you have reached the desired length attach the claps to each end of the plaits.

It should now look something like this.

Now attach a chain link to either end with a hook clasp on one end.

After I made all three bracelets this is how they looked.

Voila! There you have it, my three leather plaited bracelets.
