Friday Funnies

It’s Friday! Yes, I know I’m stating the obvious here but I’m just so thankful it’s the weekend. Wow this week has been killer! The one thing I have struggled with a lot more than usual this week is my phone’s autocorrect. I really believe that sometimes it’s just out to get me. These typos however where the main inspiration behind today’s Friday Funnies.

Oh and you’re welcome for the laughs.

Let's go to the bush

This past weekend the fiancĂ© and I had a lovely time out in the bush, and it couldn't have come at a better time as we were both feeling a little stressed and run down from the year's activities. So on Friday we jumped in the car and drove off to our destination, the beautiful Sabie River Bush lodge.

It was only by chance that I stumbled upon this hidden gem of a lodge one day while browsing the internet for places to stay. The lodge is perfectly situated 20kms outside of the Paul Kruger gate of the Kruger National Park

Our weekend away was so amazing and everything worked out so well. We kicked it off with some sundowners on Friday evening, while laying by the pool and overlooking the Sabie River.

 Our view on Friday afternoon/evening

Saturday we drove into the park and saw A LOT of different animals. I won't bore you with all the photos, but let me just say we stopped counting at 67 elephants, 3 buffaloes, 3 lions, 10 giraffes, 9 warthogs, 2 crocodiles, 8 hippos and a few dozen Impala.

Paul Kruger himself

Sunday we decided to relax by the pool and enjoy some reading, a card game or two, do a bit of swimming (ok, more like a lot of swimming as it was a blistering 37 degrees) and have a drink or two. Which turned out to be a brilliant decision, because it was so hot two different herds of elephants decide to come play in the water that day. The first was a group of five young males in the morning and in the afternoon it was a whole family of 14 elephants with the tinniest little ones. If I could, I would have brought one home. They were just too adorable.

So close you could touch them, ok not really....

This is the life

Monday was of course a sad day as we had to go back to reality. Thank goodness it was an overcast and miserable day, because it made leaving paradise that much easier. On our way home we stopped off at Milly's for some trout pies....delicious.

We couldn't have asked for a better weekend and given the opportunity we're going back in a heartbeat! I mean just look at how beautiful the lodge and it's setting is.

The lapa where we had all our meals.

The view from the dinning room.

The outside, but inside lounge.

The lapa joins onto the pool deck.

Our room, thank goodness for aircons.

So how was your weekend?

SGH come and play party

Last night I was lucky enough to be invited to the Sunglasses Hut VVIP party (#SGHCOMEANDPLAY) in Braamfontein, with my lovely sister as my guest. It was an amazing event and the location was just brilliant with it's beautiful view of Johannesburg. We were treated like such VIPs with designer cocktails, delicious bites and amazing entertainment. The big surprise of course was when global brand ambassador Georgia May Jagger "popped" out of the Pop up store at the party. Each guest was also treated with a gift card to the value of R2000 to be spent at any of the Sunglasses Hut Stores, I can't wait to go buy some new sunnies!

Thank you once again to Sunglasses Hut for the brilliant event.

My dream kitchen

If you're an avid reader of my blog you'll know that I absolutely love baking and cooking, sometimes it's successful and sometimes not so much. As someone who loves spending so much time in the kitchen I do have a bit of a dream kitchen wishlist. Now when I say dream kitchen I refer to how I want my kitchen to look, the appliances I'm still undecided upon...lol.

It would be a dream to one day have a kitchen that looks like this.

When bloggers meet up

On Saturday I attended the JHB Blogger Meet up (#JHBbloggermeetup) at Vovo Telo in Parkhurst, organised by the lovely Johlet from Our Journey to Everywhere. It was definitely the highlight of my weekend and was even more awesome than I could have possibly imagined it to be. I have to take my hat off to Johlet for organising such an amazing event!

Our little get together (ok big get together as we were 28 ladies) was kicked off by a welcome and break down of the morning’s activities by Johlet herself. We then had a motivational talk by the awe-inspiring Sue Levy from Just Pursue It. She brought up some very good points about how blogging is for you and no one else and how we has bloggers should support one another and not bring one another down.

After Sue’s speech it was time to order and oh boy was there some delicious options on the menu. This made my already indecisive mind even more indecisive. Thank goodness for patient and oh so helpful waiters, otherwise I think I would still be deciding (ok not really but you get the idea on how good the choices were). Once brunch was done we got down to mingling, mingling and some more mingling. It was so nice to be able to put faces and voices to so many of the blogs I love and admire, and to hear how people really like my posts. It’s always so reassuring to hear you’re actually blogging about stuff that people enjoy and find funny (I’m referring to those Friday Funnies).

The cherry on the cake was of course the goodie bags we received. In the weeks leading up to the event Johlet had been tweeting about how surprised and thrilled we would all be about these goodie bags, but oh my goodness nothing could have prepared me for just how much of a goodie bag (more like bags) there would be. We were absolutely spoilt rotten. I’m having a problem packing it all away at home, not that I’m complaining...at all!

Once and again a huge thank you to Johlet for inviting me and organising such a wonderful event. I loved meeting each and every single one of the ladies. Hopefully there will be another meet up sometime soon. Thank you also to Zoya Africa for the beautiful manicures we got on the day.

Another big thank you must go to all of the very generous sponsors:
