Third time's a charm

Yesterday I had the honor of being nominated for my third Liebster award (go me) by the lovely Kim from Pouring down like rain. It was yet again a complete surprise and even though there is no monetary reward for this award I am still so incredibly honored  This award is so awesome because it's from a fellow blogger, so I hope this means I'm doing something right. Kim provided a few questions she wanted me to answer, so here we go. 


What’s your favorite meal of the day — breakfast, lunch, or dinner?
It depends really on what kind of mood I'm in, but it I really just had to choose one I would have to say breakfast. 

What’s your favorite fruit?
Naartjies.

When you were five, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A ballerina...lol.

What quality do you find most attractive in others?
Kindness, caring, a sense of humor.

What’s your favorite sport?
To play: Tennis.  To watch: Tennis, and Rugby.

Silver

What’s your favorite candy?
Speckled eggs and Reese's peanut butter cups.

What’s your favorite online shopping site?
Amazon, Yuppichef and Zando.

What’s your pet peeve? 
People who cut in front of you in traffic. Those who sniff when they have a runny nose (use a tissue please) and people who interrupt other's sentences. 

Winter, spring, summer, or fall?
Oh summer! I love wearing my sun dresses, swimming and hanging out on the beach. 

How many pairs of shoes do you have?
Uh, my fiancé  reads this blog so lets not answer this one shall we. haha.

Trend alert

Winter is coming to an end here in South Africa and while I've thoroughly enjoyed wearing my winter boots and coats, I'm definitely looking forward to soaking up the sun and having a few picnics out in the garden. Along with the sun-filled days I'm also looking forward to a few fashion trends.

Oh it really does fly

I can't believe it's already Wednesday evening. This week is flying by (not that I'm complaining) but there is still so much to do, and by that I mean I still have so much studying to do for this week's assignment! In case you're wondering assignment, what assignment? Let me clarify it for you. I'm currently busy with a Digital Marketing course and loving it. It's a ten week course and each week you get reading material and an assignment to complete. 

Now this on top of everyday work has turned me into one very busy girl. So much so that I didn't even have time to plan a proper blog post for today (insert sad face). So to keep you up to date I'm going to share some beautiful turquoise themed photos I found on Pinterest. Yes it's astonishing that I barely have time to do everything else yet I have time to browse around on Pinterest.

It's a boy girl thing..

It's been just over a month now that the fiancé and I have been living together. It feels like just the other day we were packing up his stuff and shipping it over to my place and who knew one boy could have so much stuff (hehe, love you babe). Now we both knew it would be a bit of an adjustment and while we've had our moments it's mainly been a lot of fun. Here's what I've learn't so far. 

We both suffer from OCD, but clearly I have it far worse than he does.
I'm a clean cook, the fiancé not so much.
He is a better cook than I am (Ok, I've known this for a while).
Wow, we go through a lot of food...it's like feeding a bottomless pit
Even though he leaves for work while I'm still fast asleep he preps my coffee mug for me.
Boys are capable of cleaning and rather well might I add. 



Packing the dishwasher is never a peaceful affair, we can't agree as to where the mugs should go. I say mix up he says separate rows. 
Fiancé: It's 9:30pm, bed time. Me: WTF, it's early and there is still so much I can do!
We have such different tastes in TV that half the time one of us is watching the TV while the other is watching something on the laptop. Thank goodness we have loads of series and he works two night shirts a week (then the TV is all mine...mwahaha). 

Moving in together, it's not for the faint-hearted...haha.

Happiness is...

It's been a particularly good week which ended off with having today off (and I didn't even have to put in leave for it). My day off started with coffee in bed, a egg and bacon breakfast, a spot of studying, some TV time, an afternoon movie outing and dinner and wine with the fiancé. So yes it's been a really good week. All these good vibes got me thinking about exactly what happiness is (to me), and I've come to this conclusion. Happiness is:



Having someone to love and who loves you back
A supportive family
Caring friends
A warm bed to sleep in at night
Getting to sleep in on a week day
Someone to share your crazy and random moments with
Sitting in the sun on a winter's day
Hilarious family FaceTime sessions that leave you in stitches
Getting coffee in bed

Yes it's a simple list, but it's the simple things in life that make life that much sweeter.

The professionalism


For the last couple of baking posts I have been sharing my recipes from a photo shoot I had been a part of. Well a couple of days ago my friend and very talented photographer Shelley from Shelley Burt Photography shared a few of the snaps with me. The photos are so amazing, I mean who knew my baking could look that professional? I was so happy (like bouncing off the walls happy) by how well it all came together that I just had to share the images with you.






Thanks again Shelley for wanting to use my baking goodies. It was so much fun and such a huge compliment about my baking.

Star studded cookies

The other day when I had my big bake off with Cheese baking and Star and dots cupcakes one of the other things I made was some delicious sugar cookies. This recipe completely surprised me and turned out even better than I thought it would. 

Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
½ cups granulated sugar
2 eggs, at room temperature
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
½ teaspoons baking powder
¾ teaspoon salt
1 slab of milk chocolate

Method

Using a stand mixer, cream together the butter and granulated sugar on medium speed for about 5 minutes, or until the mixture is light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs and vanilla on medium speed for 2-3 minutes, or until thoroughly combined.

In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well mixed. On a low speed, slowly blend the flour mixture into the butter-sugar mixture. Mix until evenly incorporated.

Wrap the dough completely in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 1 hour, or until it is firm enough to roll out. 

Lightly flour a work surface, place the dough on the surface and lightly flour the dough, as well as the rolling pin. Roll out dough to be about ¼cm in thickness. 

Using a cookie cutter, cut out the shapes you want. 

Bake cookies for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown on the edges and pale to light brown in the centers.

Let them cool on the pan for 2-3 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely. Melt the chocolate and spread on the inside of the cookies and stick together.

Spotlight surprise

Just when you think life couldn't get any better than it possibly is. A little (more like a BIG) thing like this happens to you! Yesterday I was featured on Lauren Conrad's website for my tilted garden pots. It was a complete surprise and such an honour. Thank you so much to Team LC for the amazing feature.

Stars and dots cupcakes

Two weekends ago a friend of mine asked me to help her out with some baked goods she wanted to photograph for her portfolio. So as I mentioned in a previous post one of things I baked was Cheesecake. Now I couldn't very well bake and not make one of my all-time favourite things...cupcakes! So I present to you, my stars and dot cupcakes.

Ingredients
4 eggs
250ml castor sugar
1 ½ cups flour
15ml baking powder
½ tsp salt
125ml oil
125ml boiling water
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 cup Icing sugar
250g of cream cheese
½ Butter
Red colouring

Method
Preheat your oven to 180°.

Whisk eggs and castor sugar together until very light and pale.

Fold in the sifted dry ingredients.

Combine the oil and boiling water together. Beat in the oil and water combo along with the vanilla essence. Fill the paper cups and allow to bake for 12 - 15 minutes. Mix together the icing ingredients and ice it onto the cupcakes.
