Icebox delight

Oh how I love to bake, it's one of my absolute favourite things to do. So this past weekend my sister (my baking buddy) and I decided to bake something other than our usual cupcakes. We tried our hand at icebox cookies. Now if you're asking, what on earth is an ice box cookie then allow me to explain. Icebox cookies is when you mix up the dough, allow it to chill in the fridge for a period of time before rolling it out and making cookies from the it. Now because this was our first time making this particular type of cookie we decided to go with a pre-made mix. All that we needed to add was some margarine and water.

On a side note: Thanks for all the "interference" from dad when it came to decorating the cookies. Your colour choices are fantastic.

Big movie experience

On Saturday afternoon/evening we did something a little different. We had a movie experience of another kind. It was an evening of a picnic under the stars while watching the movie Back to the Future. It was by far the most fun I've had watching a movie in a really long time. Upon arrival we were given prop bags courtesy of KFC (who hosted this amazing event). Inside the prop bags were funny coloured wigs, inflatable guitars, crack balls, bubbles and some glow sticks (because it's not a party until you have some glow sticks).

Throughout the movie a picture of one of the props would pop up on screen where you get to interact with the movie by either waving your prop in the air or making a noise with it (if that particular prop is able to make a noise). Oh and did I mention the flames, smoke and fireworks that also went off during the movie. I highly recommend attending The Big Movie Experience if you find yourself with no plans this coming weekend. You'll be sure to find us there (again).

Gates open at 17:00 and there is a range of stuff to keep you entertained (games, music, a photo booth and crowd participation activities) while you wait for the movie to start at 20:00. Oh and one last thing...the whole thing is for FREE, barring the food and snacks you take along. The KFC Big Movie Experience is a must for everyone.

Kaleidoscope mobile

A couple of weeks ago I had a bit of a creative weekend and did some crafty projects. One of the things I made was a kaleidoscope mobile (for lack of a better name). I found the original design online, I mean where else do I find most of my inspiration...lol.

The mobile was so easy to make and my choice of colours go perfectly with the colour palette found anywhere in my home. So no matter where I hang the mobile it will go perfectly with everything. And of course I made sure to take plenty of photos of my mobile project, so that you can make one of your very own.

What you'll need:
Paint colour samples (the cardboard ones they give you at the paint shop)
Dowel sticks
Fishing line

Trace and cut out circles onto each of the paint cardboard samples

Make a hole at the bottom and top of each circle and thread the fishing line through the hole

Cut the dowel sticks in half. Hang the rows of coloured circles on each of the dowel sticks and lay the sticks over one another

Creativity dreams

I dream of the day I can have a room dedicated just for crafty and creative things. I spend so much time picturing how I would decorate this space (if I had one), what the colour scheme would be I would, which handy storage ideas I would use. It would be the ideal space where you just walk in and know where everything. It's a space of your own you, decorated by yourself, making you instantly feel inspired! Now for those crafty crazed people such as myself, you know exactly how I feel.

My space would look a little something like this...

Appreciating the small things

This past week was a bit busy of a busy work one, but along the way I still found time to take a few snaps and appreciate the small thing in life. Have a look and see what I got up to this week.

I spotted some home grown veggies

Appreciated the beauty of my garden at night

Had a visit with a fluffy friend

Enjoyed some delicious Thai food

Received a Valentine's note

Admired a beautiful flower at work

Hope you all had a wonderful week and enjoy a nice relaxed weekend.

Valentine's card

Tomorrow is Valentine's day and if you're still unsure on what kind of card to make for your loved one, family member or friend, why not give this Valentine's card a try. It's quick, easy and ideal as a last minute project.

What you'll need:
Coloured and white paper

Use the coloured paper and scissors to cut a few hearts shapes

Fold the hearts in half

Stick the hearts down (using one of the folded sides) on the paper
and voila there you have a 3D heart card

International pancake day

In light of the fact that it is International Pancake Day and I am avid fan of pancakes I have decided to share this scrumptious (healthy) pancake recipe with you. My sister and I made it not too long ago. Oh and a few times since then (did I mention we love pancakes...lol). I hope you enjoy your International Pancake day celebrations.

Sweet Corn pancakes and avo salad

100g plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 egg , beaten
150ml milk
1 large tin sweetcorn (about 340g), drained
4 spring onions , chopped (use the green bits as well)
1 avocado , cut into small chunks
150g cherry tomatoes , halved
¼ cucumber , cut into small chunks
Olive oil

Whisk together the flour, baking powder, egg and milk and season well. Stir in the sweetcorn and half the spring onions.
Heat a non-stick pan with 2 tsp oil and cook spoonfuls of the batter until golden.
Mix the rest of the spring onions with the avocado, tomatoes and cucumber.  over and cook the other side.
Put 3-4 pancakes on a plate and serve the avocado salad on top.

The cuteness

Not too long ago (ok, I admit it was this morning an I got distracted for a few hours...hehe) I was browsing around on Pinterest, by now you should have realised this is a daily occurrence for me. Anyway, while I was on Pinterest I stumbled upon this photo.

Adorable I know!

It's just too cute and knowing my sister and that she is a complete Star Wars fan I just had to send it to her.  It was not too long after I found this photo that I ended up (as one does) looking at other random cute photos on Pinterest. I found so many cute photos that a post dedicated to the cuteness was a definite must, so go ahead and enjoy the cute factor.

It's the month of love

By now we all know that next week is Valentine's day. Usually I'm not really the Valentine's type of girl. This year however it seems different. It's almost as if I am interested in celebrating the "day of love" and when I am interested in something what else do I do, but spend hours or days searching the internet for information or inspiration surrounding the topic. I decided that if I was going to be looking for Valentine's day stuff I would look for homemade ideas and boy did I find some cute stuff.

I found treasure

There is nothing better than finding a bargain when it comes to clothes or accessories. It's like discovering a hidden treasure and you want to tell everyone that you found it. This past weekend I had one of those treasure finding moments. I was out with my family and the boyfriend just doing some weekend shopping when I came across this little store. At this particular store I found a skirt that I've always wanted to buy (but it's just been too expensive) for a fraction of the price. Not only did I find the skirt but I also found a bra which I had been planning to buy (it works perfectly with my backless dress) also for a fraction of the price.

Finding these two 'jewels' got me thinking about all the other treasures I had found over the years. Like the time I went to a local Sunday market and discovered the most beautiful threaded earnings  Every time I wear them I get so many compliments (us girls we love compliments you know...hehe) and people ask me where I got them.

Call me silly but I feel so proud and chuffed with myself when I discover a find such as these. Have you ever had one of these "treasure" moments?

Baking lust

For those who know me well it comes as no surprise that I absolutely love to bake. If I had my way I would be baking all day every day. I just love looking up fun and interesting recipes and then making them come together. The absolute highlight of baking is getting to decorate the cakes or cupcakes, because lets face it that's usually what I'm baking.

Now when I bake I enjoy using colourful utensils and mixing bowls. I do have to admit that there is one thing I have a desire for, and that is a KitchenAid. Now for those of you who don know what a KitchenAid is, it's like the Rolls-Royce of kitchen appliances. It's the most beautiful and handy stand mixer you could possibly own. If I ever have the opportunity to own one of these (they're quite expensive), I'm going to get a pink one, because it's so pretty...lol. I mean just look at this mixing beauty...
